Its like a fastback but its not really. The rear hatch is way too flat (if it even opens). The integrated rear wing looks goofy . That rear side window looks the same shape as the Z cars. Was this a concept? And is that a Thunderbird logo on its stand?

This is all i know about it http://blogs.hotrod.com/archive-photo-of-the-day-early-early-mustang-fast-back-23473.html

Rear and side glass even roof and pillar look much z like 1965.

Black gold man you of all people could probably lend some information on this rumor:

"Datsun/Nissan originally designed the Z for a Ford 289/302. Carroll Shelby got wind of the idea and made some threats to Ford, Ford then backed out of the plan and Datsun installed one of their own motors."

Its circulating around the internet and i have heard it from a few different car guys that have been around a lot longer than i. If its true this picture of the rear window adds more to the idea that Datsun borrowed a lot of other car company ideas to develop their new sports cars beyond the obvious jaguar look. They the Kia of the era.

I think this car was customized for a car show and not by FORD.

Like one of the shows shown here http://www.joestevensphotos.com/Detroit-Dragway-Drag-Racing

But if you cover the side of the car you have a z with a vent window.

I guess i could go knock on the door and strike up a conversation on datsun with

BILL FORD;)

I'm still wondering how they put gas in the tank since the rear filler appears to have been removed from its spot between the tail lights. Not sure what the chrome dome is on the driver's side of the fastback.

There is just way too much documentation available about how the S30 was designed, the design process, who was involved, and at what time period to support anything like that rumor. Carroll Shelby was involved in a Toyota 2000GT racing program. Perhaps that's what these people are thinking about.
