mz-n10 Posted April 26, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Hey allI bought my 240z a little bit ago (last year oct) and loved it. But a few months ago i had the car randomly just die on me on the freeway. I cranked it a few times and it started and I drove it around for a couple more week with intermittent problems where it would just die. but now I cannot even start the car. I did a bit of research and and it seems like the e12-80 is malfunctioning but while taking apart my distributor i noticed there is a pertronix electronic ignition in there. So now I am not sure what i should do....should i buy a new distributor (looking at a chevy HEI) or should i just try a new e12-80 (where should i buy one of those?)Also is there anything else I should consider before I start replacing things?thanks in advance... Reverend Posted April 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2012 I suggest you check on your ignition switch, that causes similar issues. Do a little search and you'll find tons of info
Carl Beck Posted April 26, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2012 If it is the e12-80 module just switch to the GM modulehttp://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/gmhei.htmlFWIW,Carl B.
LeonV Posted April 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2012 If you have a Pertronix unit, that means you have a points distributor which was converted to electronic triggering. The E12-80 module is only relevant if you're using a 280ZX distributor. If you have the Pertronix installed, you don't have an E12-80 module. d240zx2 Posted April 27, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2012 Also remember that three things are required before an engine will start and run: Fuel, air and spark. If one or more of these three things is out of whack, you've got your situation.
