Factory spoiler?

There has been a lot of text about G-noses, airdams and spoilers. Did the factory ever produce an optional spoiler (other than the ZG nose)? If I'm ever to put a front spoiler on a Z, I want something that does NOT look as modern as the one on the top right of this page. I'd prefer something more like this: http://www.240z.org/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=24491

Was this a factory option?

That looks like the "Spook" that was designed (I believe) by the folks at BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) for their racing Z's in the early 70's, and was later mass produced and sold to the public. Some were added to new cars by US dealers. I don't know if it was authorized by the factory, but I don't believe it was ever produced by the factory.

Yup, that's a Spook alright.

You can still get them from MSA with or without holes.

The big advantage of the Spook is that it bolts on to your existing front valance. The other styles offered, as a general rule, require you to remove it as well as the side marker curved sections.

BRE also had a short full width rear spoiler which mounted on the upper edge of the rear end. This was in part to add down ward pressure on the rear tires and also to upset the flow of air in order to avoid the dreaded exhaust back flow in through the hatch vents.

Thanks for the replies. That spoiler looks much better than the full 'air dam' that many people choose. Personally I think an airdam looks too modern on the Z... leave them to the Hyndai drivers...

spoilers ever produced for the Z that came with the car. the only one that did though there is more after was the 79 ZXR.

then the Z31 Turbos came with a factory rear spoiler also.

the spook was produced as a air damn for the front of the car, it is nice and does go with the car well

I have had several of the original version spooks on various z-cars over time. The down side is that they were originally made of fiberglass and if you hit anything at all with them at any speed you were picking up the pieces. Road kill of any size that is unavoidable will do them in and bend the valance in the process. I went through several due to this. New ones might be ABS or some other material that may fair better.

They don't do as well as a full size air dam performance wise either, but do look more period for the car.
