Ever seen a 240Z with a backseat?

Yeah, I laugh when I think of trying to sit back there. That seat appears to be much like the rear jump seats in my Porsche. What purpose do they really serve? The rear buckets in a 911 are about 12-13" across (too narrow for any adult I know), and the head room is only sufficient for people shorter than about 4'6". I clearly remember a line from a magazine years ago about the rear seats in a 911 being good only for small children or adult cats. I suppose small dogs would count, too. Pretty accurate...

I have a future plan to install 280z 2+2 seats or z32 rear seats onto my '72 240z since I have little kids.

I think if I remove the boxes behind from seat, it looks almost as same as 2+2 like this.

However, I haven't seen photo or real one that none 2+2 240z/260z/280z installed 2+2 seats yet.

If someone has photos, please let me know.

Thanks,

Tamo3 and Carl...wow, that IS the seat! I think it could easily be duplicated if any of you out there were so inclined. I'm willing to take pictures of the metal mounting pieces if anyone is interested. An upholstery shop could easily cover the wood pieces.

Back when I was young and stupider, I rode in the hatch of a Z, superman style. I think we got up to about 115mph. I would NEVER do that with what I know now. Age makes you wiser. Cool jump seat. My dad made a wooden one for his Alfa Duetto when I was born. Rode in it for three years...the good old days.

Seems like if you had a strut tower bar that you could anchor the seat and a seat belt to you could create a relatively safe seat.

Especially if you held an inflated beach ball in your lap to serve as an airbag in case of rapid deceleration....;)

  • 2 years later...

My Dad used to take me, my brother and sister (ages 12, 10 and 8) to school every morning in his '72 240Z, two of us laid out in the back for the ten mile trek into town.  Seatbelt laws be damned!  Actually, that memory is one of the reasons I bought and restored this dad gum thing.  :P
