Hi Burt-

I see you asked about SU carbs.... don't be scared off by the voodoo, they really are nearly as simple as a toilet. A "controlled fuel leak" i believe is the description by Scott Bruning, who started www.ztherapy.com

He has sold the business, but it is still an excellent resource. You will be wise to buy the su video. HTH, Jeremiah

Enrique is absolutely right about test fitting before doing drilling. Make sure there’s enough clearance will save you a lot of heartache in the long run.

Another note: Make sure you don’t have any screw drivers or other tool laying on the radiator core support when you shut the hood. It will be a hard lesson in cleaning up after yourself.

to e scanlon, alphadog, Datsun z guy and everybody else how ya doing. I took the liberty of going to some photo galleries. It seems that these bars are installed by cutting the rubber. The bar goes right up against the guard so I guess I'll do that.

Got another question for you. The idle in this car when going into neutral at stopping doesn't seem to want to go back down to 650 it stays up at around 1500-2000 rpms. The choke is off of course. I'll punch the accelerator with my foot and then the idle drops down. I think I may have a sticky throttle arm what do you think. I,m pretty sure that it's not the carbs. Because I'll also lift the hood and retract the arm manually and I get the same result. The only thing that I did around that area was to remove a torn throttle boot and install a new one and I did put it on in the right direction. At first I thought that part of the arm was getting stuck on the new boot.Could you check your throttle boot and tell me is affixed to the fire wall or does it lie around the arm freely?

If you have any feedback I'd be much obliged. Thanks

I have seen this in more then one. I have found that the return spring will strech over time. The linkage will also start getting hung-up with a worn\streched spring.

Oil all the joints on the linkage replace the spring and see if that dose it. It cant hurt and wont cost much of anything.

hope it helps.

There should be two springs on the throttle linkage. They connect to the throttle arm (just below the screws you should see a tab with a hole in it) on the backside of the throttle shaft that runs between the carbs and both then connect to the small tabs on the exhaust manifold heat shield. If you have no springs at all, the throttle would not have any way of returning. They are a lightweight spring approx. 2-3 inches long.
