May 13, 201212 yr comment_389950 Stephen: I vote for you to leave that steering wheel in the Z for a few weeks - I really like the larger grip in my hands on the twistys - maybe not the interstate which I have to drive over 1 hour just to get to an interstate. But on the twistys the Momo has much a better feel. Maybe the white stitching is throwing you off. Mine is the Momo Competition - not sure if the two sizes are the same (I would have to think so) but I personally like the modernized look of the cockpit area..........but really like the better hold on the wheel with spirited driving. I really thought about buying a Nissan Competition Steering Wheel and had one lined up from Japan but had to bring myself to reality about the $USD that I was going to pay. There is a reason the Nissan Competition has a thicker hand grip area...............anyway - it's hard to go wrong either way with our cars........modifications are a very personal thing and you have not made any errors. Best of luck on whatever wheel you keep in the car. I'm keeping my refinished original wheel but doubt it will go back in - the same thing for the original refinished seats...........my son will be the next steward of my car so he can figure it out on down the road which ones he likes the best. May 13, 201212 yr comment_389951 I have a Momo Race on my car. Diameter is about 13.7". Control is so much better in the turns and the grip is a lot less fatiguing on long drives. It is also easier to get into and out of the car with. I bought it NOS on eBay for $130.00 shipped. I shan't be going back to stock. I agree that you should give the wheel enough time to get used to it and then see if the stocker feels out of place. Once again, it all depends on how you drive the car.Regarding seats- I have Miata seats in my car. Great lumbar support and side bolstering. I had a 1000 mile rally last month and had a great time. May 14, 201212 yr comment_390019 Okay, I spent all of 20 minutes installing this tonight. And at first I was worried that the depth would be an issue. Or rather the flatness of the wheel. However, that turned out not to be such a big deal, as the adapter to fit onto the Datsun column was about as deep as the wheel was, and the overall difference is about a half inch closer to the driver. What I was not prepared for was the small diameter. I thought 1 inch would not be noticeable, but my gosh it is. Perhaps it is the combination of the thickness and the diameter reduction, but I have to let it gel for a few weeks before I decide if I am going to leave it. I like it, and it feels great, but somehow a small part of me thinks it looks out of place...opinions? I am setting up the car for a 1000 mile rally right now in November and I thought this would make the ride more enjoyable... Keep in mind I just refinished my OEM wheel, and I think it looks brilliant. It looks very similar to the Bob Sharp racing wheel that came on my track car when I bought it. That was made by Racemark. I really liked the feel of that wheel on the track. May 14, 201212 yr comment_390022 I've got a Momo Race, and like tlorber says, it's more precise and more comfortable. Definitely makes it easier to get in and out of the car, especially with seats that have larger bolsters. The only demerit on this wheel is that low speed effort is considerably increased, everything else is great. My wheel is also 350mm (13.78"), what size is your Prototipo? New carpet and weatherstripping are on the to-do list... May 14, 201212 yr Author comment_390031 Not sure, but 13.7" seems to ring a bell. I just really like the wooden wheel guys. I put it back on the car and I like how the wood feels in my hands. The slight grainy texture. It just brings another sensory connection to the classic nature of the car back to me. Its probably all in my head. But as part of staying original, it just seems to fit the car, or rather what I see the car tuning into someday. I just think I jumped the gun a bit too fast on this purchase. That money probably should have been spent on some S12 brakes and master cylinder upgrade. Hind site and all. I am far from perfect, and at times I will make a mistake with a purchase. I realized it when I walked away and I just could not shake how it looked in the car. The wheel will find a good home I am sure. But for the foreseeable future, I am going to stick with the old fashioned wood. Time to move on to the next mod. I have to find the right shifter to fit through my transmission tunnel with minimal mods. I have read the threads, and know what I am looking for. May 14, 201212 yr comment_390046 That style has no grooves for your thumbs and on a long trip you'd be holding the wheel wrong for 90% of the time. I've had a 13 inch Grant wheel for almost 10 yrs now, ever since some funny racer types taped a series of paper towel roll tubes around my wood wheel to make it look like one from a sailing ship. After all the suspension mods I've installed, the old wheel doesn't provide the response time I want.As to driving long distances, I've done a few one day, 1,000 mile drives from ZDayZ to home and the wheel was comfortable to hang on to the whole way. May 15, 201212 yr comment_390121 My '71 240Z came with a Momo PROTOTIPO so they are period correct. Even has the Datsun horn button. You can still find the horn buttons for sale on Ebay ever now and then. I like the Datsun Comp wheel as well but not for $800 +.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachments/17419d1174504073-dsc_0012-1.jpg Edited May 15, 201212 yr by jmark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43194-momo-prototipo-installed/?&page=2#findComment-390121 Share on other sites
