Hello Folks! I am trying to locate a 240Z Radio Condenser, Part Number 27984-89910 (supercedes to 27984-N3500) which is also now NLA. Can anyone suggest another Nissan number which will work for this application. Will part number 27984-N4400 or 27984-B0700 work? Any input on this part would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Rob

Is your goal to do a cosmetic restoration or to get rid of radio noise from the coil & alternator?

a 10pF tantalum capacitor, (anywhere from .1 - 100pf) from Radio Shack, mounted directly on the alternator will get rid of 95% of alternator whine. It goes between the output lug (B) and ground.

Just be sure you install it correctly, they're polarized. They go off like little blasting caps if you wire 'em backwards. Want to guess how I know???

"Condensor" is just another name for "capacitor".

On the 280ZX coil, my Factory Service Manual spec's a .5uF capacitor. (In the radio section) Be sure you hook it to the + terminal, not the -. I wouldn't be afraid to try the alternates you've found.

This capacitor isn't JUST for radio noise. The coil presents a big inductive load to the charging system. A capacitor in parallel with it neutralizes a bit of that load --- when the coil is discharging, the capacitor is charging, and vice versa, so overall it uses less power, makes less RF noise, etc. Might make the coil last a bit longer too.

HTH.
