Car registration

I'm in the military and not required to register my car in the state of CA but can tell you that they tried to hit me with a $200.00 fine for not registering my Z. I rejistered the Z after my old state registration expired. Read the title it might have rules as to when you need to register the car. I bought a pickup in WA and the seller had to mail a portion of the title reporting the date of sell. There was even a note for me to register within 10 days of purchase or pay a fine which I did $70.00..Hope this helps....

Yes, there is a 10 day time limit for changing car titles in CA, as well as WA. So you probably do want to switch the title to your name now to avoid hassles when you try to re-register.

They do have an option so you can register your car as non-operable for something like $10. This way, the car is registered to you, but you don't have to pay the full yearly registration price until your project is done and you are ready to go.

Cheers,

SMW

Register it and change the title, for sure. Otherwise, the old owner can claim all kinds of things once the restoration is done. Never invest in something in which you don't have the pink slip.

at the BMW you can sign an affidavit noting it is not running and thus you won't have to buy a plate.

You can get all the forms on line and do it through the mail. Standing in line at the DMV sucks. Also they will tax you on what you paid for the car so so if got it for $100 and you do not have a sales slip . . . make one otherwise they will asign a value!!

yea i have the bill of sale from the owner $50 bux hehe so say tax of 8.25 should be around 4 bux..the origianl owner warned me about that.... and i'll most likely do waht owenz suggested and do it via mail, since i don't have time to stand inline haha
