Posted May 24, 201212 yr comment_391019 This past weekend I was in company with 17 Datsuns 510 owners and some them also own early Z's,we were attending an event in WV. While talking about J Lo the subject turn to the future value of the 510 two door(69-73) and the 240Z.We all agree that current values are all over the board, Z's seem to dominate the Ebay/CL listing and that the 510 have less of presence on this outlets . That being the scenario indicates that there are less 510 than Z's in the market,so the debate is, will the 510 be of more value ? May 24, 201212 yr comment_391020 Probably not. Low quantity does not always mean high value.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43323-future-value-your-opinions/#findComment-391020 Share on other sites
May 24, 201212 yr comment_391021 I have nothing against the 510 but I doubt it will ever be worth more. 6cyl vs. 4cyl. Sports car vs. sedan. What was the event in WV?Chuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43323-future-value-your-opinions/#findComment-391021 Share on other sites

I respect your opinion but lets no forget the racing history of the 510(BRE) plus all the privateers in SCCA, makes it an icon just as the Z. May 24, 201212 yr comment_391029 cbuczesk......The Jefferson 500 Historic Race 2.5 Trans-Am Series. I respect your opinion but lets no forget the racing history of the 510(BRE) plus all the privateers in SCCA, makes it an icon just as the Z.If racing history makes them equal then their relative values don't change. Both cars were made a long time ago and I can't ever remember the 510 ever being worth more than the Z. I don't see a reason for that to change but you never know. I wish there were more 510s out there. I'd really like a 510 wagon but haven't had much luck in finding one.Chuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43323-future-value-your-opinions/#findComment-391029 Share on other sites

May 24, 201212 yr comment_391054 psdenno...........in your world the 510 with all it's racing history/the marketing it had back in the day/it's well balanced drive train is FAULTY logic Other than both having four wheels and a Datsun emblem, the Z and the 510 are quite different in purpose and design. Your point was "I respect your opinion but lets no forget the racing history of the 510(BRE) plus all the privateers in SCCA, makes it an icon just as the Z." To say that, "makes it an icon just as the Z." is where the logic of your statement gets fuzzy/faulty. While they both may be icons in their own unique ways, arguably, they are not equally iconic. Therefore, the dollar value for a 510 and a Z of equal condition is unlikely to be the same. Your original question implied that you were looking for opinions, not debate. I'm moving on. May 25, 201212 yr comment_391082 Speaking from NZ point of view, the 510 or Bluebird as they were known here, was a relatively cheap car which was reasonably popular, and were seen every where on our roads at the time, but never gained the same mystique as a 240Z . The early Bluebirds are having a bit of a comeback with some young guys, but I can't imagine they will ever overtake the 240 in value. May 25, 201212 yr comment_391131 The 510 is a cool old car. The 240Z is a cool old car. Why argue about it? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43323-future-value-your-opinions/#findComment-391131 Share on other sites
May 25, 201212 yr Author comment_391132 The 510 is a cool old car. The 240Z is a cool old car. Why argue about it? No arguments my fellow Z friend , only exchanging concepts . I happen to own both, a 72 two door 510 and a 72 240, both are enjoyed to the max, but the issue of value seems to appear frequently when in group with Mr. Six Pack or Mrs. Wine. There are those who think that the rarity of a unmolested 510 two door(69 to 73) with no radical mods(period mods are OK ) and with a clean body/interior are in the same $ territory as a Z, maybe not an early first gen Z . I belong to that group of 510 owners, they are scarce and not many are in the open market as the Z,IMO As per future value who knows.............
