No, you don't have to completely disassemble the carbs to check the filters, but you do have to take off the fitting where the fuel line connects to the bowl. It's easy to do with the carbs in the car. If it turns out that the filter screens are clean and the problem is elsewhere, you might want to pull the carbs off the car to check the float bowl levels. Not necessary, but easier and probably more accurate.

Checking the filter and the float bowl levels are both well covered in the factory service manual. You'll need an earlier (70, 72, or 72) manual to get info on the round tops, so if the only manual you have is for 73, then you'll need to grab an earlier one to get the correct carb info.

ok thanks. does hybrid z have the 72 fsm? cause thats where i got the 73 fsm from. Ill probably un hook the outlet fuel line from the mech. pump first and see if there is good flow and go from there. i prob should have rebuilt the carbs its just i really dont know much about them and the S.U type kind of intimidates me LOL. my father and i por 15 the tank and replaced the vapor lines and rubber lines from the tank already.

POR-15 will often clog the inlet screen when it's used to seal the inside of a gas tank. If you get poor flow from the mechanical pump, you might confirm good flow from the tank outlet before doing any pump work.

By the way, it's a simple courtesy to put some effort in to your posts and capitalize. Shouldn't be too much to ask for all of the assistance you're getting.

Allright so I found the root of the problem. I went to check the carb inlet screens and found out that they were both bone dry and relatively clean. so the fuel wasnt getting from the pump which was functioning properly to the bowls becase the steel distribution line on the side of the head is clogged shut. Whats the best method for unclogging the line? compressed air

Y ea i tried using an old guitar string but it wasnt sturdy eough and i think that a clothes hanger wouldnt make the bends im thinking maybe some mechanics wire

If it's that clogged, I doubt you would be able to blow the clog out simply with compressed air. I think the idea of snaking it with a piece of wire first is the best idea. As for what type of wire, you're on your own. Just keep trying until you find something that works.

Other ideas? Long spring of narrow diameter? Something intended to clean out small plumbing pipes? Something intended to fish electrical wires? Tapping on the outside of the line to maybe help break up the blockage? Take it to someone with a large industrial sized ultrasonic cleaner? Buy a replacement used fuel rail?

Might try weed eater string in the larger holes, fill with carb cleaner while working the tool of your choice, may take several, small to larger. The return line has a smaller hole to keep the correct fuel pressure with the mechanical pump, do not alter the size of this hole.

Alright I brought the fuel piping to work and blew it out with compressed air and used brake cleaner and penetrating oil and there is sufficient flow coming from the lines. Time to hook em up and see if she runs.
