Thought I would start a thread in lieu of finally getting my 71 running this weekend!!!!

The car had been in a 5 year hiatus before I bought it, and due to other projects has sat for another 2 years while in my possession.

But on this memorial day weekend I was determined to get as much done as possible with the single goal of getting it going.

The car came with a l28 head l24 combo:sick:, which also happened to be missing a valve guide. The engine was swapped out for an l24 block early e88 head courtesy of CL.

I installed the engine a while back, had the SU's rebuilt, and toyed with ideas of elec ignition.

Yesterday, with everything hooked up, stock points distributor installed it started right up and rev'd great! Never mind the clould of smoke!

Today we installed the E12-80 distributor and did some further syncing of the the carbs. Idles really well,

Really happy with the progress! As any running Z gets the nod in my book :D

Future plans ? Just to get it on the road again. Brakes and clutch need to be gone through, Have ordered both slave and master clutch cylinders, as were both shot.

Did the 300zx rotors come from the parts car? Someone sure spent some time building it with a turbo, T5, LSD and the brake upgrade. Is ther anything else done to it?

It sounds likethe donor is in better condition then a lot of cars we are restoringLOL

Yes the whole strut assy. Car came with some great looking MSA sway bars and some other goodies.

Had some major success today, eng and T5 installed. Lots and lots of work.

A fresh coat of paint does wonders. Your making good progress.

LSD was installed today along with Tokicos in the rear.

Rear needs a complete refresh, but will have to wait for until after car is running.

Aiming for Sept car show in LBC to have the car running.

T5 trans install completed today. Mount was fab'd and installed. The Mustang shifter feels terrific. Will take pics. No trans tunnel cutting required. (:

Drive shaft, speedo cable and exhaust down pipe installed today. Start on wiring harness on Sun.

Thanks Euro, made a little more progress today. Heat has been crazy lately. Intercooler was mounted using the horn holes, fuel pump wiring is already in place from stock harness? I have a collection of coils, but is pretty much ready for first start up. (:

You have done a good job mounting the intercooler. Looks really neat.

Thanks, I couldn't take the credit for it though. Got some Tokicos for the rear courtesy of Hybridz. Went ahead and installed them today.

Still need some filters, clamps, hoses, etc. Maybe tomorrow for start up.

First attempt to start made today!!! Fuel is good, No Spark however.

More investigation needed...
