I hate having hot air blowing in my face anyway so this won't bother me at all when I get my car running. My feet are always freezing!

Also the Datsun Dude has mint condition factory service manuals for about $75. You can reach him at z@datsundude.com. You may not want to take it in the garage but it's all there. He's got a long list of NEW original parts.

Hi Burt:

Hope you understood that I'm pulling on your leg a bit with my comment. That comment is my standard answer when someone asks why something isn't the "the way it used to be" or is "different from what I got last time I was here"

You'd have to have the dash out of the car ( or be upside down underneath it) IMO to observe the reasons that warm air doesn't get to the end vents on the early Z's. Simply, they are'nt plumbed to the heater side of the ventilation system, only to the vent side.

Carl,

I completely understand that your joking. It's a privilige to be able to talk to you and the other people out there about these things and I sincerely appreciate the feedback. It's difficult to be to philosophical on the internet but I'm kind of like that especially as I get older. You know my wife kept telling me that other then playing basketball twice a week that a 52 year old man should have another hobby and what another hobby I got. But seriously it's fun and what the he-- it's only money and caskets don't have pockets. You can say just about anything you want to me remember I'm from New York.

all the best speak to you soon

:classic: On the care and feeding of the SUs once a month check the oil level of the carberaters in order to keep them operating smoothly. I have used 20wt oil and fine it to be the best in my car. This is also what is recomended by the builder. You can find 20wt at the local cycle shop . They have it as fork oil , they use it in the front for forks on the cycles. If you are not aware that there are oil dampiners in the carbs , the black plastic nut on the top of the carb that is in hand tight , remove it and there is a rod attached that sets in oil . if over filled it just runs into the intake and is burned , no worries, it only takes about a teaspoon full of oil to fill. this is real basic stuff but important if you are unaware of it Gary

Su carb maintenance. I'm wondering is there a section on this site that gives a write up on the maintenance of these things. I find that they always seem to be too rich but I admit I've never bought a Unisyn or Colortune kit for it I've been putting it off and since someone reveresed into my Z a week or so ago I've spent the money on getting a new bonnet sprayed. ENough about that however....

The oil in the dampening chamber is to stop the throttle opening up too quick isn't it?

As far as I understand to tune these things you first set your electrical timing. Allow the car to be warm of course.

Remove air filter. Disconnnect carbs at throttle linkage so that they are independant of each other. Adjust air flow nut so that both carbs are sucking the same amount using the famous Unisyn or go by hearing as I do :( . Bring car down to normal idle speed. Reconnect carbs together check air flow again.

After that to do the mixture right I believe u start at 2 and 1/2 turns from the top, down. Since I don't have the color tune you should be looking for a brownish color on your spark plugs after a quick drive on each 123 cylinders and 456 cylinders. Gray means too lean black means too rich.....

That's my input maybe not very clear but best I can do with this little sleep. Has anyone got a better site than this..

For maintaining or tuning SU carbs??? I was gonna buy that book off ebay but they need credit card something I don't have :(.
