Posted June 5, 201212 yr comment_392109 Hey was up guys I'm new to the forums and I know this is the best site when it comes for Zs. So I have a problem with the car dieing on me when I let go of the acceleration. This morning I headed to work with no problem I stoped by the gas station and everything was fine. So on my way back home I let the car warm up about 7 mins and as I took off this problem occured. Any advice thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43428-1972-dies-when-letting-go-of-the-acceleration/ Share on other sites
June 5, 201212 yr comment_392114 Assuming you have SU carburetors, have you checked the oil in your carbs? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43428-1972-dies-when-letting-go-of-the-acceleration/#findComment-392114 Share on other sites
June 5, 201212 yr Author comment_392130 Yes they are SU carbs and I have not checked that. I'll make sure to check that once I fly back home. Thanks a lot man Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43428-1972-dies-when-letting-go-of-the-acceleration/#findComment-392130 Share on other sites
June 5, 201212 yr comment_392140 Low fuel pressure? Have you tried holding a steady rpm (like 3000 rpm) for a minute with the car in neutral and then dropping down to idle? If so does the engine just shut down or does the engine attempt to idle and then shut down? Any popping or surge? June 7, 201212 yr Author comment_392302 Well I dont really know where it idles since my rpm gauge doesn't work. I give it gas for a good min but when I let go it just shuts off. no popping none of that. I just might take it to a Z shop because thats not my only problem it also smells very rich from the inside and out. June 10, 201212 yr comment_392601 I don't think the oil in the su's is the problem, it is there to cause a time delay on how fast the slides react.I'm thinking that you may have developed a vacuum leak somewhere.I'm sure there are other possibilities, lack of fuel pressure at lower rpms from a fuel pump problem not fillingthe bowls, but I still would look into the vacuum issue, like a broken hose somewhere.Jim H.
