side mirror issues

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to paint my car and have a few projects left. Painting scheduled for 30 days from now.

The two screws holding my stock side mirrors to the car appear to be stripped on both mirrors. Also, the mirror body tends to rotate to easy and moves during driving. Thirdly the glass is not perfect.

Can these items be fixed? As anyone had similar issues? Is there a plate inside the door that the screws actually go into or is it just the door itself?

Any help would be appreciated.

Side note I am leaning torward a combination orange and blue paint job. Wife is trying to talk me into something a little more conservative (dark green or cherry red).

Answers to your questions:

Can these items be fixed? Yes

As anyone had similar issues? Yes, I did.

Is there a plate inside the door that the screws actually go into or is it just the door itself? Yes, there was on mine.

Seriously - Those are my answers.. If the glass had been good on mine, I would have painted and reused them. I ended up going with a new OEM drivers side mirror, I do miss the passenger side though.

If I were going to do it again, I would purchase the Racing Style mirrors from MSA (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/EM/50-1153) and have them painted to match the body color. Since you are having the paintwork done soon, you should look at several different styles until one flips your wig. Have any existing holes in your doors brazed shut, then have some threaded lugs welded to accept your new mirror. Once the paint is done you'll have a solid mount for your new mirrors.

Andrew, these look great. Not sure if anyone out there has these and what they think. For the price I think trying to get mine working properly may not be worth the effort.

olzed, an indy 500 car inspired my interest in orange and blue but you are probably right about the wife.
