Hi all,

I am new to this forum and those in it and I wish this first post was under better circumstances. I will try to be as clear as I can be here just please have a heart and skip the RTFM responses, thanks in advance.

My father owned a 73 240z and he passed away last week. The car had been a project we were working on and I am trying to get it running to take to the funeral on Thursday night (June 14). One of the things that was done on the car was the carbs were replaced with reman units from ztherapy. We were able to get the carbs installed and somewhat adjusted last fall, at least to the point where the car runs and I was able to drive it to my house to store for the winter. I am comfortable working on cars and have a full compliment of tools including things like the flow meter used on the carbs, timing lights, etc. I understand the basic concepts of SU carbs and how they work but I really don't have the time right now to sit and fiddle with them or get a crash course in carb adjustment as you can imagine. The other issue that I have is that being that I never observed the car in proper running order I really don't know exactly how the engine should behave when set up properly. In my opinion right now the engine is running too rich and the idle is not where it should be so it wants to bog down when you first bump the pedal off idle. It seems like everything is fine above about 1500 RPM, the problems are all on the lower end, getting it to idle properly and not run fat.

So I guess here is where I'm getting at with all of this. I am looking for someone who is knowledgeable about tuning and balancing these carbs and can come to my home in West Allis WI (Milwaukee metro) in the next couple days to help me get this thing running the way it should. As I said above, the funeral is Thursday evening and I apologize for this being short notice. I was able to get the car started and let it sit and run yesterday for a while so that won't be an issue. I am self-employed so I can also make myself available during the day if necessary. I would also be willing to flip the person a couple bucks for their time and travel and pay for all the beer and pizza they could eat if they can help me. Obviously given the circumstances I need the person that comes out to be familiar with doing the adjustments talked about earlier, I would rather not experiment right now, I just need to get this running and done. If you can help please feel free to contact me, as much as I hate to do it I will put my contact information in the sig of this post however it will be in text form to avoid as much spam as I can.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Dave:

First, my condolences. I respect what you're trying to do for your dad.

I'm too far away to be of any help, so, if no one else is able to come in person, you have AT LEAST two alternatives for excellent phone help. The "best" guy is Bruce Palmer of ztherapy, who hangs around here, though you can get him via his website too I'm sure. He'll be the first one to call if he can.

Second, call me four oh three six twenty eighty five seventy. I can talk you through it. It's nothing that can't be talked through.

And, I know you'll be getting about a hundred offers of help in the next 30 minutes from this group of excellent individuals, so just stayed tuned. Some one will help.

Also consider the possibility that its more than just carb adjustment, and there may be little you can do about getting it run for Thursday. You're dad will understand.... God bless

Jim
