January 20, 200322 yr comment_23863 I know a few people that work at autozone and we took some time and looked up there parts listings for the early Z. I was shocked at how many parts they had listed. I would say just go in with a list of what you want and see. You will want to write down there price and part #s. Then look and see if there the best price. On ther other hand if you find the parts from a retail store it will make things easy for returns if the parts shipped are wrong. So spending alittle more on the parts retail may make life easy in the long run. January 20, 200322 yr comment_23867 FWIW, I've always gotten things like starters, alternators, master cylinders from the local Advance store. They usually have them in stock and they take the old ones back as cores. They may be rebuilt buy the same people that MSA and VB get them from, and they are usually a bit cheaper. These were used on more than one car model in most cases, so they are usually in stock at most stores. January 20, 200322 yr comment_23903 Hi Alex,I've bought after market starters from a couple of local parts stores. I've found NAPA has the best deal. They come with a lifetime gauruntee (sp?). You buy it once, and that's it. Replacements are free (with core exchange). I'm on my third one now. Although they only last a few years, that's no worse than the other guys and I've not been hastled about a return. One bit of advice. Thoroughly check the new (rebuilt) starter against the old one. Sometimes the rebuilders confuse the Z starter with the Datsun four cylinder starters. They're identical except for the length. January 20, 200322 yr Author comment_23919 Thanks for the information guys !!! I got lazy and was ordering most of my parts from MSA so now I will see about getting a starter this week at Napa or other local dealers and compare prices and definitely hate to pay for shipping !!!!!
