Snap, Crackle, Pop from my 1974 260z

Today, my Z started making snap, crackle, pop noise out of the exhaust. It's spewing a lot of exhaust as well. This is my first Z car and I'm a newbie when it comes to mechanics. All I know is that the car has the stock engine with twin carbs the previous owner installed and I'm not sure who's the manufacture or model. Also it won't idle in neutral as well. When I take my foot off the throttle it, it loses RPM and dies on me. I'm just wondering what's wrong and I want my Z purring again! Having such a beautiful car and having not working properly really bums me out. I hate having to hear my car sound like Rice Krispies! I like staring at it, but I'd love to drive it! I know the info I gave may not help, but I'm hoping one of you guys can help me out!

Welcome to the Z world. There's a lot of good help here, but please help us help you. We need a better description of your car. A lot of these Z's get carbs swapped around and we can help diagnose things knowing what carbs you have. Pictures also help if your not sure.

Does your car the original motor, ignition, carbs??? Any history on the car?

Since you don't have a ton of knowledge to describe the problem, a video might be your best shot. Lots of exhaust, and snap, crackle, pop are hard to diagnose. Some people spend a lot of time and money to get those two things.

What were you doing before the change happened? Winding it up, going through the gears, drifting? Just asking, that would be a good clue.
