derk Posted January 20, 2003 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2003 The driver's side nearly came off in one piece....much easier than passenger. Did not find any in the hatch area....Posted my new pics in gallery as it stands.Would you POR-15 the hatch area as well? What did you use for the seams along the floorboard by your feet? Whatever Datsun used came up in white pieces.Interested in your feedback.....Thanks
kmack Posted January 20, 2003 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2003 "What did you use for the seams along the floorboard by your feet? Makes for a nice seal between metal pcs. I used it all over my car sealing anything and everything I could reach. It runs about $4-6 a tube depending on where you can find it. It's basically thicker POR material and I bought two tubes of that for the seams. It worked just as well as the rest of their products from what I can tell. Remember, anything you put between the POR and the metal will prevent the rust proofing that POR provides. It must be in full and complete contact with the metal (properly prep'd of course) to provide the benefits that they claim. Where POR got on area's that still had paint on them, it was easy to peel up the POR15. Where I painted it on bare metal, I haven't been able to dislodge it. (haven't tried a knife or anything like that though!)Since I did my Driver side floorpan only, and it came up easliy with heat and a scraper, I'm hoping that I don't have the more difficult time it seems that you had, when I go for the Passenger side this spring.I'd POR any area I had the money, time, energy, and opportunity to strip to bare metal, prep, and treat. IF I was going to keep the car for a long time. JMOCarl
EScanlon Posted January 21, 2003 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2003 Bambikiller said it best. The problem with pliable seam sealer is that it never "sets", which is it's good point. Since it never sets, it can be pulled off by accident or get hard when yu least expect it. That's what happened to the original stuff Datsun used.I POR'ed the whole floor, firewall, transmission tunnel, tool compartments, wheel wells, inner fenders, hatch floor, behind the tail lights. The only part that didn't get it was the spare tire well, and that will get it later.2¢
texasz Posted January 27, 2003 Share #5 Posted January 27, 2003 EScanlon,When you POR these areas are you doing it inside the car or outside/under the car?
EScanlon Posted January 27, 2003 Share #6 Posted January 27, 2003 I POR'ed the whole interior of the vehicle first. Next I will chip / grind / dissolve / nuke the undercoating to then coat the whole underside of the car.Hope this helps.
