My 240z is having a bad week, i have to really wank the shifter to get it on reverse, it has original tranny. Is there anything i can do about it or is it going broken all the way? When it engages, it reverses as usual. It takes around 30 secs to minute to engage it.

I do have 5 speed on the way here, but it takes at least 4 more weeks.

Are you sure it's not the slave or master cylinder of the clutch linkage? Reverse, since it's not synchromesh, is usually the first gear set to show the effects of bad clutch linkage.

I've had many that are hard to get into reverse. Try putting it in 3rd and then into reverse.

I have to second what Zed Head said. When reverse was going out on my 73, I needed to replace the Master & Slave.

Just for giggles, check your pedal travel. When I first got my car it was very difficult to get into reverse. After I brought the pedal travel into spec from the service manual it was and is fine. Just a matter of around a 1/4 inch was enough to do it. Good luck.
