Posted June 22, 201212 yr comment_393812 I was wondering if replacing the vacuum advance was a relatively easy task and also how it's done (do I need to remove the distributor, disassemble the distributor, etc.)? I think mine is busted - doesn't hold any vacuum whatsoever (used a vacuum pump). I apologize if this topic has already been gone through before, I wasn't able to find any specific threads on it.And just to clarify, this is the vacuum advance correct?http://www.ebay.com/itm/Standard-Motor-Products-VC351-Distributor-Vacuum-Advance-Nissan-200ZX-/190662110088?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6458eb88&vxp=mtr#ht_506wt_1139Was planning on purchasing this one. Can't seem to find any elsewhere? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43610-replacing-the-vacuum-advance/ Share on other sites
June 22, 201212 yr comment_393813 It's pretty easy, and you don't need to pull the dizzy, even though that would make an easier job of it. And don't buy THAT VA unit 'cause it's not for an S30.QUOTE=UR2H;402181]I was wondering if replacing the vacuum advance was a relatively easy task and also how it's done (do I need to remove the distributor, disassemble the distributor, etc.)? June 22, 201212 yr comment_393814 As stated above, it is very easy. However, when you buy one, (I got one from the dealer for around $30-$40) make sure you give them the correct year for your DISTRIBUTOR, in the event that it differs from the year of your car. You should bring in your current one to be sure. These all look very similar, but there are slight differences. For some reason that vacuum advance lists for a "200zx" but if you scroll down it details that it's for a 280Z.As stated above, it is very easy. Places like Kragen/O'Reily's and Napa said they could possibly get them. This eBay listing is pretty much the only thing I could find on the web. Even contacted the seller and confirmed it was for my car and manual transmission. June 23, 201212 yr comment_393867 Some detailed pics on this page showing a vac advance going in. The two fastening screws are the same on most distributors I have seen. The old vac advance may have corroded to the distributor housing (where it inserts). You may need some penetrating oil to loosen it up.
