This incar is of a one lap PB around the improved Lakeside circuit in AU, hosted a couple of international F1 GP's back in the late sixties plus V8 supercar races after then. Now it hosts races, time attack etc up to State level, pretty testing circuit but a real blast if you can keep it on the tarmac Anyway here is the vid, perhaps others would like to post their one lap PB's, Z is a 280ZXT with a VG30DET engine and Federal FZ201 semi slicks

I was commenting on the (sedate) pace of the Porsches, but since you seem to think that this hotrod - whatever it is - is somehow representing 'Zeds', and demonstrating how they "perform to their potential" (by changing this particular car so radically that it can no longer represent anything other than itself...) I'll have to say that the driver - God bless him - looked like he was out for a Sunday drive. Come on, these are just track day laps aren't they. You're not supposed to be timing them.

Yes 'faster shifting', you know that DCT the P cars have, look it up, you would have noticed that the Z was slow shifting with it's H pattern surely. Cheers for the New Year and try being more happy positive for a change.

Fnarrrr. Give your head a wobble mate. You're apparently promoting a completely drivetrain-swapped hotrod (which is alright by me on its own terms) as some sort of example of 'the potential of the Z car'.

The 'sticking it to the Porsches' stuff is pure pathos. Porsche is a specialist sports car manufacturer with a rich history in racing. Look up their history as a manufacturer entrant in the International Championship for Makes and the International Cup for GT cars during - lets say - the 1969 through 1980 period. How about you go over to the Auszcar forum and check out the Z in question and even talk to the builder/driver before doing your Porsche snob thing? If you are genuine that's what you would do instead ranting at the messenger, facts are facts and results are results. If you were a real Z enthusiast you would be rapt but obviously you are a ignorant poseur whose ego depends on putting others down.

I want to see you making the same silly claims you're making here (you know, all that "putting it to some P cars, as it should be" and 'proving the potential of the Z' [by putting an LS V8 in it...] type stuff)? I do hope so.

For the rekud, I'm not in any way a 'Porsche snob'. Unless you mean my natural respect for a manufacturer which has competition in its very lifeblood, and which won (for example) the International Cup For GT Cars in 1968, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75 & 1976 (mainly with variants of the 911 platform) and (for example) the International Championship For Makes in 1969, 70, 71, 76, 77, 78 & 1979. You may have noticed their success in long distance sportscar racing as well as rallying and engine supply to a notable F1 team which was originally founded by a New Zealander (Mac-something...). I was present at Le Mans in 1970 when Porsche took an outright win there for the first time, and - I freely admit - it has affected me. When I see a Porsche sports car it reminds me of that.

Maybe your vision is different? My hunch is that you are reacting to an image created by certain sectors of ownership, but we could say that about almost any car brand couldn't we?

Do you know how much work it takes to become a (an...) ignorant poseur whose ego depends on putting others down? It's a full time job, I can tell you.

It has taken me years of practice to get this good at it, and staying on top of it requires vigilance and dedication. It also requires a daily diet of dimwits who are willing to sacrifice themselves on the altar of my art, much like the supply of dead mice to feed a pet reptile.

My observations on the Phillips Island video as related to similar HP track days here in the USA:

The difference in performance seems to me more related the driver's ability and not the car they were driving.

Only a few were track prepped and I suspect on street tires, maybe even high performance tires but not race tires.

Unless you have done a lot of track days having  a "race" car in your rearview mirror can cause folks to let you go by so they can concentrate on their own driving.

I race with a few vintage groups and they operate in one of two ways;  specific classes based on HP and car performance (in the day in the USA such as A, B and C production SCCA cars) which run as a single group. It can also be B, C & D production with AP big block cars running by themselves or with others cars (lots of Zs , 911s and 914-6s). The other grouping is a mish mash of cars ranging from a 70 Camaro, a 911, a 930 turbo,  240/26/280 Datsun Zs, an Alfa GT V6, a Shelby GT350  Mustang,  IMSA corvette, a 65 Barracuda or a Datsun 510.  Each is in a different subgroup but on the track racing at the same time. My 72 Datsun with a fully race prepared L28 is only 2-7 seconds off the pace depending on the track and conditions (wet vs dry). As a Datsun driver I admit to getting a kick out of beating a Porsche (when I can) in the same manner that Bob Sharp, Sam Posey and Jim Fitzgerald did in their Datsuns. I use the later rear spoiler from the Sharp #33 car to remind a Porsche driver who's in front of them.....
