Posted January 21, 200322 yr comment_24048 Hello--my first posting- I have a '78 280z that i am slowly trying to restore. I also own a '77 280z that has been nice to steal prts off of. First let me tell u that i no longer have original key/ignition. My problem started as just a fuel pump issue-i thought- no fuel getting thru lines. Replace electrical pump forward of tank. NO power to pump. I have a haynes manual-which has 0 diagrams for '78, what a buy, anyway i have been able to trace out f-pump lines. All my fuse have been replaced, the line from pump to fuse box is good, i am unsure as to which fuse is responsible for pump. When looking at panel i believe it is the top right fuse link. A green w/blu wire runs from that one. So when i turn my key no fuel pump, just the other day my starter decided not to kick on when turning key to start. All fuses still good. I am unsure as to which relays under pass dash are related to this(manual does not secify my yr.) as well as unsure for engine cmprt. relays and links. please help!! also, is there not a website with d-loadable diagrams for electrical??? :( Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4370-electrical-ign-fuel-pump/ Share on other sites
January 30, 200322 yr Author comment_24988 Ok--after correcting alot of electrical issues---everything is working properly except one thing. My fuel pump kicks on when key is in on position??? Please if anyone knows why it isn't only when start and run, let me know. The wiring is connected with fuel pump the same way as manufacturer. What could cause this?? January 30, 200322 yr comment_24991 You say the fuel pump kicks on when the key is "ON", that is how it should be, isn't it? I believe my Z's only have OFF, ACC, ON, START- for key positions. If the pump doesn't run when in the ON position, the engine won't get gas & it wouldn't run, correct? It's so damn cold here in NY, i haven't seen my Z in months, but thats how i remember it. Maybe the 280's are different? Or do you mean the pump is on when the key is in the ACC position? Not sure if the microfiche CD has wiring diagrams (that hasn't been an issue for me-yet-) But is it a very worthwhile investment.Hope that helps- JA Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4370-electrical-ign-fuel-pump/#findComment-24991 Share on other sites
