Posted July 5, 201212 yr comment_394875 I recently installed the Petronix ignitor and Flame Thrower 3ohm coil. I have wired it to the ballat resistor, one side of ballist resistor, and directly to the coil and still get a miss at 3500 to 4000 rpm.I have new *mm accell wires new denso platnium plugs cap and button. Timing is good. My ? is has anyone got the 3ohm coil to work properly? I have the factory coil back and wired to factory specs and it runs fine. I have searched for this and have come up with no solution. July 5, 201212 yr comment_394877 Put your car specs in your signature- model/year. Otherwise, that's the first response you'll get- well, now it would be the second. And I just searched " Pertronix" and got three pages of threads. Pertronix, not Petronix. July 5, 201212 yr comment_394879 3.0Ω coil should not have the ballast resistor connected, and if you have a condenser connected to the coil, remove it. I had that problem due to having a condenser connected to the coil. July 6, 201212 yr Author comment_394956 The car is a 73 240Z 2.4L 4 screw belltops w/European needles from ZTherapy and a full exhuast. Took the condenser off when I did the installation. July 6, 201212 yr comment_394959 Here is the best write-up I've been able to find. Great diagrams. I installed the Pertronix without any issues on my '72http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/ZXPertronix.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43731-has-anyone-got-the-petronix-ignitor-and-flame-thrower-3ohm-coil-to-work-correctlyhelp/#findComment-394959 Share on other sites
July 9, 201212 yr comment_395237 I had the same issue.. the way I had it wired was cooking my coils. Should be fine with that diagram. July 9, 201212 yr Author comment_395251 I wired it up by passing the coil completely, and it still sputtered and popped at 4k and the tach quit all together. I think the coil is good becuase you can feel a difference in power with the flame thrower over the stock coil. Would some one please post pics of their coil to see if I'm missing something. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43731-has-anyone-got-the-petronix-ignitor-and-flame-thrower-3ohm-coil-to-work-correctlyhelp/#findComment-395251 Share on other sites
