Posted July 7, 201212 yr comment_395077 I am putting the head back on. I had the timint set at TDC. Marked the chain link at number 1 (where the pin was set at) now I cant get the spocket to line up with the cam. It will not pull up enough. I tried prying up with a screwdriver and now my arm is shaking from the strain.:mad::mad: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43752-help-i-cannot-get-the-cam-sprocket-back-on/ Share on other sites
July 7, 201212 yr comment_395079 Did you try to pry it up with the big cam bolt in place? Maybe a little tension from the cam bolt to help pull it on?Chuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43752-help-i-cannot-get-the-cam-sprocket-back-on/#findComment-395079 Share on other sites
July 7, 201212 yr comment_395085 You didn't wedge the tensioner? If not, you're going to have to pull the front cover. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43752-help-i-cannot-get-the-cam-sprocket-back-on/#findComment-395085 Share on other sites

July 7, 201212 yr comment_395087 You may have to rotate the cam cw or ccw a degree to help with alignment of the sprocket with the cam nose. You may have to rotate the cam cw or ccw a degree to help with alignment of the sprocket with the cam nose. As did Blue. Thanks guys!!!! it's back on. And I did block the chain. I did not loose it. July 7, 201212 yr comment_395097 Wow! Look at the size of that timing chain tool. It's as big as your car! Glad you got the car fixed.Chuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/43752-help-i-cannot-get-the-cam-sprocket-back-on/#findComment-395097 Share on other sites
July 7, 201212 yr Author comment_395099 I know. it also held the hood in place. The Z is not fixed yet. Time to relax, have a beer and think about what is next.BTW I did one other thing that helped, I put the bolt in place without the washers at first, that way I could spy down the number 1 hole to see if the pin was lining up. I turned the cam as Blue suggested till it lined up. I then reassembled with the washers in place.
