E36 Head?

I'm a bit confused. I found a March-'71 car in a junkyard today and was pulling some of the older Series-1 bits out of it, when I thought "maybe I'll grab the head." It was an E31 after all. I ended up leaving it there, didn't want to yank it out and then find he wanted too much for it. But when I got back to my newer car at the house, I double checked the head installed on the new car I had since its also a March-'71 car. I know some engine work had been done, but I was flummoxed when I saw it had an E36 head.

Did it squeeze between the E31 and E88 for a short while? What on earth is an E36 head from? Can't be anything wild, otherwise I'd be able to find a write-up about it (thank the BMW E36 for making it difficult anything other than Bimmer information from Google).

So I figured this out. It's a case of 95-degree heat making a dirty 88 look like a 36. Boy do I feel dumb. But while we're on the subject: How do you edit a post? I can't seem to figure that out. Thanks.

The "edit" key appears at the bottom of your Post - right after you make the Post. It is there for a brief period - but doen't stay there long.

If you car is March of 71 - the E88 most likely did not come on it originally. The E88's started to show up toward the end of the Series II production. March of 71 would have had the E31 from the factory.
