Posted July 19, 201212 yr comment_396194 A recent study from Environics Analytics WealthScapes examined mean household wealth and found the average Canadian has a higher net worth than the average American: $363,202 compared to $319,970. NBC's Brian Williams reports. This is due largely in part to the practice of Canadian's buying Japanese cars from America and reselling them to Saudi Arabians.Parts of this article have been embellished by the Club member. July 19, 201212 yr comment_396196 I lived in Ireland, NJ, and now I am back in Canada. The inflated costs I experienced in dense areas is sickening. What I can easily enjoy here, I never would be able to do in Ireland or NYC area without a 10X multiplier to my pay. I actually and truly feel "freedom" here after these experiences. I guess the poor folks who spend their whole lives in inflated areas never have the opportunity to experience how tough they actually have it. However, there are areas in Canada that are subjected to crazy inflated prices (Vancouver, Calgary,Toronto) and there are places in the USA that are very reasonable such as Dallas, Texas. A lower income in a lower cost of living area can outweigh a higher salary in a high cost of living area.Live Free or Try! July 20, 201212 yr comment_396324 Texas is blessed with a very reasonable cost of living. I am 20 miles south of houston. I despise the thought of living like a rat in a congested city. Give me the suburbs were I get more for my money, and living within my means still allows me fun projects and the occasional vacation without going into debt. July 20, 201212 yr comment_396341 I live in Maryland and own 3 small business', I paid over 53% in income taxes alone, add in the taxes on purchases and property and that would reach into the 70 to 75% range. I envy you siteunseen, and would like to someday be able to keep some of my earnings for myself.
