RB20det position in 240Z

Ivan,

My starting point was to use the stock tail shaft.

It can be used, as well as the LHS engine mount from R32.

But the gearstick sits about 70mm too forward in the car.

Height wise the engine will just clear the towers, using a long spirit level running between the guard mounting flanges.

The engine will be sitting on a slope on about 10 degrees or more (gearbox end down and front up). I'm not sure if this is healthy oilwise in the engine/gearbox, any opinions on this?

I have decided to lower the engine as far as is posible neatly and shift it back leaving about 40mm clearance to the firewall.

This has got to be the most important decision in engine conversion. Any shortcut and it will come and bite you....

same thing here with the engine angle and gearbox leaver position. my gearbox hole had already been cut, the guy I bought my 240 from had three spare gearbox's and I guess on of them required the hole to be extended forwards.

So you recon the z drive shaft will bolt on to the skyline rear box, will be trying that on the weekend

Yes, it will not bolt on, but slide straight in.

The surrounding collar seems a bit small on the 240z shaft to keep out dust and dirt.

Any opinions on this?

I might try and source a R32 to yoke, since the drive shaft is going to be shortened anyway.

Hopefully that might help somewhat?

My gearstick used to sit a fair bit too far forwards (would bang against the console in 1st, 3rd & 5th) .. but after some small modifications to my gearstick that's no longer a problem..

the engine sits fairly close to the firewall and there is plenty of room out front for a thermal fan, much bigger rad, etc..

*sigh*

i should really take a new pic of my engine bay.. its much cleaner now :-D

Hello everyone, first time posting here... anyways, tomorrow might be a big day for me, I am going to a car auction where they have two 240z's in auction. The reason I am posting today is because since I got the idea of getting a 240z I have been thinking of an sr20det swap. Mostly because it is the engine that I know more of and I think its one of the cheapest. But I have been reading around and there seems to be no kit to make this swap like there is for v8's. Also a friend of mine is getting a 240sx to install an sr20det as well. We dont have the experience and currently dont have the tools to make all these changes. Do any of you know of a conversion kit for the sr20det? or possibly an rb engine, although I would have to learn more about them. thanks for taking your time to read!
