Posted August 7, 201212 yr comment_397862 I takes 3-5x before ignition key starts the car and sometimes it does right up. Batt and starter were tested ok at local parts store. Is it time to replace ignition assy? Appreciate any inputs. Thank you. August 8, 201212 yr comment_397977 There is likely 1 or more bad connections in the circuit. Check the connections for dirty, corrossion, and loose or broken parts. My 74 had the same problem. The connectors at the fusible links were the main problem but there are alot of other connections in the circuit. August 14, 201212 yr Author comment_398568 Thanks for the kind response beermanpete. The problem has been around for a couple of years now but somehow been living with it. About a year ago, I opened the f. link covers and found messed up wires and connectors. I thought this could be problem so I made my own, really neat ones but used a thicker gauge for both. It somehow made a difference but still doing it. Did I do a no-no insofar as the wire gauge is concerned? Thanks for inputs. August 14, 201212 yr comment_398574 The fusible links are typically 2 wire gauges smaller than the wire they protect. If you used fusible links that are too large they won't protect the wiring from burning up should an overload occur. If everything else (headlights, heater, etc.) is working ok you could consider installing a relay to power the solenoid. August 16, 201212 yr Author comment_398842 Thanks again. You mentioned headlights and heater. Headlights work on dim position, but only left side{pass. side) works on hi-beam and both works only when I rev the motor. BTW, heater was not working since I got it. Have replaced the fusibles since I read your reply. Thanks very much, appreciate.
