I don't know about commanding-a seller is free to ask what ever he or she wants to, but they have no control over what someone is willing to pay for it.

We have documented similar situations on the ZCCA posters in the archives-someone asked $600 or so several times, his poster went unsold, much like I suspect this auction will.

From what I have seen the Franklin mint cars-even the 240Z- regularly move for between $60 and $125 depending on condition of the model and the box. That auction price was probably inspired by this one- http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-Datsun-240Z-1970-diecast-/170614104840?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item27b964a308 -I see both as inexperienced fishermen fishing in a new hole! They can throw a shark line in the 55gallon drum I use to flush my outboard too, but I don't believe they'll catch anything there either!

I've got one of those on display at my home, just did not save the packing materials. Strange that his description says it is in white when it is clearly orange - just like mine. A backstory on this model is that the mint used a car restored by Bill Reagan of the Z Club of Texas for all of its detail work.

Something like three years ago Bill sent me the last book(a fleshed out collection of articles he wrote for the club) he had of the work that he put into that car, he sent me color pictures for it as well-great guy! The car was definitely just right before it changed hands.

That one looks to have very low mileage.

BTW, an article I read recently said that the value of old toys (fine, "collectables") is greatly enhanced if you have the original packaging-even if that packaging is not in great shape. I'm talking to the tune of double or triple the value just because you have the box. So you guys that still have the boxes may want to keep that in mind.

I got mine all in it's original shipping material. I open it up once or twice a year, look at and and then put it back. I have a closet full of Tamiya unbuilt F1 car kits, both 1/12 and 1/20 along with my Z models. My wife says the day I die she is throwing all that out, including my New in the Box Franklin Mint Z. After that she is moving out the garage and doing the same to all my Z parts.

Lets hope you live a long time Montezuma! My wife tolerates all my car stuff but I am selling some model kits as now as I have come to realize I will never get around to building all of them.

I have one of the 1/18 black 240z die cast cars. I think its made by Sun Star. Found it at one of the discount toy stores years ago for like $15 and could not pass it up.

I have two of the Franklin Mint Z's as well. One has never been out of the box. The other one is in the box, but when I did display it, my dog knocked the table over and the rear bumper broke. My guess is that in perfect condition, they are worth about $60 each at most.
