January 24, 200322 yr comment_24399 If I remember correctly it's called shaving. The photo states that it is "frenched". I guess there are different names for it. The door is opened either through a button or a door handle under the door. There would be other methods too but I can't help you there. Here in Australia it is illegal for a road registered car due to safety factors. In case of an accident or any emergency the door cannot be opened from the outside therefore it is illegal.Looks damned good all the same. January 24, 200322 yr comment_24416 This is not hard. They sell kits now that are starting around $150 US. It comes with the new latches and micro switchs that you mount where ever you want. Most ppl hide them under the car. Now the switches are just a back up. Most kits now use remote keychains like an alarm. The way it works is you mount solenoids and actuators. When you hit the remote or switch they act much like a spring that kicks or pops the doors open. Downside. A dead batt. can and will lock you out of your car. January 26, 200322 yr comment_24608 I was of the impression that when you shave the handles, all evidence of them disappear, and you end up with a smooth finish, frenching I thought referred to "digging a deeper hole" in the body to flush mount the handle, more commonly done to rear lights etc Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4413-no-door-handles/#findComment-24608 Share on other sites
January 27, 200322 yr Author comment_24642 oh ok, maybe its a good idear i dont get it done in being ilegal and all, plus i can see how haveing a flat batt and not being able to open the door or even the bonnet to charge could be a little problem!! January 27, 200322 yr comment_24683 Z Kid is right. Shaving is the removal of items (ie: door handles, moulding, etc. etc.). This process leaves no evidence that the item was ever there. Frenching is the process of "recessing" an item into the body panel, very common with antennas especially on "wild" streetrods. Also something you do with a date in the movie theater or in the backseat.
