'D' Style Wheel Trims

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I might be able to lay my hands on some of the 'D' style wheel trims from the 1970/71 model 240's. I have 260 style mags (actually with Skyline caps) and I would really like to return the car to a more authentic appearance.

Here is a picture of the trims that I am after.

Heh Nigel,

I have the original wheels and trims for 71 240Z right here in Brisbane Australia.

I was going to take my car back to original but I am having too much fun racing the beast.

If you want me to email pics contact me.

Can phone on 07 33251145

Rick.

Alfa,

Sometimes I thinkI might be confusing things myself. Being a Pom in Australia trying to communicate with such a worldwide group of Z fanatics. Hence my use of the terms wheel trims rather than hub caps.

I just had a look at the Victoria British cattle dog and they call the piece a "centre cap". This comes of the centre of my mag wheels. Check out my picture gallery to see the wheels.

Please excuse my rambling, I am typing this after several bottles of Wynns Coonawarra.

Nigel,

Here is a single wheel cover for an small opening bid. You may have to work the single angle as sets are obviously costing more (450). This may be your best option. A few from the people on the board, a few in e-Bay and you will have a set.

Why not try and get hold of a set of the late 71/72/73 & 260z style "Z" caps. These are more plentiful as they were used over a larger range of years.

Only the very early 240z's into Australia would have been fitted with the "D" style caps from the factory.

I own a Sept 71 240z. I picked up a complete set of 5 rims and 4 caps for AUS$10 per rim and AUS$15 per cap a few years back. They are from a 74 260z and hence the rims are slightly wider than the stock 240z ones.

I am happy with these. As my car was produced in the transition period from the 71 model year to the 72 model year I could probably pass them off as original equipment.

Who knows...

BTW, the caps do have some slight surface rust on the rears, but will come up nice. I have them stored away as I enjoy driving my 240z too much these days and dont want to risk loosing one.
