Posted August 21, 201212 yr comment_399383 When i go over the little reflectors on the road moving into the left lane the back left side always has a sort of popping sound, almost like metal hitting metal, or if the strut was dead... I replaced the struts and still have the same sound, any thoughts on what it could be? August 21, 201212 yr comment_399384 Noises carry on these cars badly. Did you make sure the gland nut screwed down hard against the strut? Sometimes the supplied nuts are quite right and the threads bottom out before securing the strut . I had to use a washer on top of the strut to shim the gland nut.Get your wrenches out and check torque on everything under your carGood luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44166-left-rear-popping-sound/#findComment-399384 Share on other sites
August 21, 201212 yr comment_399400 Did you make sure the gland nut screwed down hard against the strut? This is my first thought as well. Make sure your gland nuts are tight and show a thread or two. The gland nut should not be snug with the top of the strut tube. A loose or improperly tightened gland nut would mean your insert is bouncing around the strut housing, hence the click. August 23, 201212 yr comment_399561 I had both rubber "dampers" worn of from the struts, they caused a lot of unpleasant voices. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44166-left-rear-popping-sound/#findComment-399561 Share on other sites
August 23, 201212 yr comment_399579 My car had a noise like that when I got it. I searched high and low on the rear suspension and couldn't find it. When I put the header on and had to cut out the twice pipe I found a bad exhaust hanger, that fixed it.
