January 26, 200322 yr comment_24542 Looks good to me, of course, I'm a bit prejudiced as I have one just like it for my carwhnever it gets painted.... January 26, 200322 yr Author comment_24543 The design looks like it might overlap the previous holes from the wing on there now. Maybe all i'll have to do is bondo them, pimer then seal them, no paint match. Hmmm...-Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4423-pics-of-the-240/?&page=2#findComment-24543 Share on other sites

January 26, 200322 yr comment_24546 Please excuse me as I am mechanically ignorant:stupid: , but I was wondering, is there a useful purpose for a wing/rear spoiler or is it just to look good? January 26, 200322 yr Author comment_24547 I suppose if a car is powerful enough to get up to higher speeds, the downforce provided helps it to stick to the road better, hence the use in most motorsports. As far as the one on my car, I doubt it affects anything, plus it looks bad on the Z anyways.-Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4423-pics-of-the-240/?&page=2#findComment-24547 Share on other sites
January 26, 200322 yr comment_24548 A wing on a car is essentially an upside down airplane wing. Instead of generating lift it generates downforce which is always a good thing - it improves traction and handling. The improvement from the downforce outweighs the slight amount of extra aerodynamic drag the wing would cause. A spoiler on the front helps keep lots of air from getting under the car. Early Z cars tend to have front-end lift at high speeds without a front spoiler. Once again, more downforce is better. It improves steering as well as traction. Indy cars have wings on both the front and the rear for the maximum effect. With a front wheel drive car the extra downforce generated from a wing in the back doesn't help traction or steering since those are both at the front of the car. For the Honda crowd a wing, a coffee can exhaust pipe, and a VTEC badge seem to improve performance - at least psychologically. January 26, 200322 yr comment_24582 That looks like nice ride. The interior looks almost intact. Even those diamondtrimmings on the gearboxtunnel... Looks like the previos owner has tuned up the centre console with some aluminium panel? The guy has been watching too much fast and furious...Who can think that a civic would be cooler than a classis Z car....It is that mass hysteria and peerpressure...Cool guys drive tuning cars...Nerds drive old datsuns and other shitboxes...HIFI!! January 28, 200322 yr Author comment_24743 Well, i'm taking the wing of this week and plan to sell it to some honda kid. How much you think I should ask for it? It's an APC double deck wing. -Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4423-pics-of-the-240/?&page=2#findComment-24743 Share on other sites
January 28, 200322 yr comment_24781 Originally posted by MikeW With a front wheel drive car the extra downforce generated from a wing in the back doesn't help traction or steering since those are both at the front of the car. Wrong. A wing at the back provides down force onto the rear tires increasing grip through hi-speed turns and making the car more stable, no matter whether the car is front or rear wheel drive. Take a front wheel drive with a rear wing, thrash it around a race track, then take the wing off, and do the same and you'll notice the car is a lot looser in the back end. Then play demo derbys with it, and smash it up, cause rear wheel drive rocks, and front wheel drive sucks. January 28, 200322 yr comment_24796 I'm pretty sure that rear wings on front wheel drive cars add about 4-5 hp. I think if you look in any site on how to rice it's an inexpensive way to get HP. Just like adding the decals and the grapefruit tailpipe. :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4423-pics-of-the-240/?&page=2#findComment-24796 Share on other sites
