Posted September 1, 201212 yr comment_400398 I need some help determining the length of a 1970 driveshaft. Either from the center of each yoke or u-joint or just the length of the shaft itself up to the weld ring for the yokes. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44272-1970-driveshaft-question/ Share on other sites
September 1, 201212 yr comment_400402 You mean the short ones, used with the diffs that were mounted forward. I have a couple of those. I got 21 1/8" from the center of each yoke. September 2, 201212 yr comment_400418 Funny, I have one good one that I bought from someone local when I thought I would need it soon, and figured that I would never find one in the wrecking yards, and another that I found in a wrecking yard about two weeks later. But it has a groove in the splined input piece, from a worn seal, that may or may not be in a critical spot for my use, which would be a 300Zx transmission with a swapped bell housing in a 76 280Z. But the groove would definitely be in a bad spot for an early 240Z.In short, I have a good one and a bad one but want to keep the good one. What do you need it for? September 11, 201212 yr comment_401183 You can get a brand spankin new one here: http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com/Import%20html/Nissan.htmlThey run around $279, but they are premium, speed balanced and have replaceable U-Joints. September 11, 201212 yr comment_401196 Better check the length first though before you buy, since they list one drive shaft for all 240Zs. The discussion here seems to be about the very early ones, that were shorter. September 11, 201212 yr comment_401258 I remember that the later S30's had an engineering drawing of the drive shaft in the FSM. Do the earlier FSM's have such a drawing?? It could come in handy in finding a replacement.
