Posted September 6, 201212 yr comment_400793 Howdy,On my 78 280z I have decided to install some aftermarket gauges to monitor oil pressure and water temp. Would anyone know off the top of their head if the threads on the stock oil pressure sender are bspt or bspp. The sender unit that came with my new gauge is a npt so I am looking for the correct adapter. Thanks,Tex Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44323-oil-pressure-sender/ Share on other sites
September 6, 201212 yr comment_400794 Pretty sure it's BSPT. I bought the pipe nipples below from McMaster Carr a while ago. I think I tested them out but so far they've been sitting on the shelf until I need them.5832T121 BSPT-to-NPT Threaded Brass Pipe Nipple, 1/8" Pipe Size, 1-1/2" L, Threaded Both Ends, Schedule 40 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44323-oil-pressure-sender/#findComment-400794 Share on other sites
September 6, 201212 yr comment_400795 BSPT. There was a semi recent discussion about this and the source for adapters. Some, including me, would argue no "need" for correct adapters. I ran an 1/8 NPT tap into the oil sender port, added my NPT "T" (using an oil pressure safety switch along side sender) and never looked back. Stock oil sender threads happily and leak free into NPT as well. I've had mine this way for years and years with 0 leaks. Same for the water temp ports on the thermostat housing, except 1/4 or 3/8 NPT depending.. September 6, 201212 yr comment_400798 I was going to comment about just threading NPT in to the BSPT hole, since that's what the PO did on my current engine. Your method works, but you went the other way than Texas is going, threading BSPT in to an NPT hole, he's threading NPT in to a BSPT hole. The problem is that the typical NPT fitting is larger diameter at the tip than the typical BSPT fitting. From what I've seen, even if you get a small NPT part (minus manufacturing tolerance) you'll only get one or two threads in the BSPT hole, if you're lucky. September 6, 201212 yr Author comment_400803 I will probably try to find a BSPT male to NPT female adapter that way I do not have to rethread the factory hole. Thanks for the input. Ya'll are gentmen and scholars. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44323-oil-pressure-sender/#findComment-400803 Share on other sites
