donor car for my 240z

looking at getting an unlicenced 280z as a donor car for my 71 240z.

There seem to be a few 82 model 280's available locally.

Questions?

1. Are they fuel injected, should i use it if it is.

2. Are all the parts i need for the diff swap on the 280z

3. Does the 280 motor bolt straight into my 240, can i use the 240 5 speed box (all the local cars are auto).

4. What other parts can i poach off the 280 that will improve my 240.

5.Should I hold out for a different year 280 or one with a turbo motor.

ps will keep all my original 240 parts for the time when a full resto is in order.

any help would be appreciated

IF it is indeed a 280Z, don't use it as a donor car, I only know of two in south australia, they're as rare as rocking horse Sh*t over here, as they were never actually imported. More likely its a 280ZX, which would be fuel injected, but it would require you use all the computer etc, many people install the motor, then use there original carbs. You may be better off trying to pick up a 260 2+2, I picked mine up for 420 dollars, and sold off the bits for about 600 odd dollars, got to keep all the bits i needed (gearbox and diff and suspension) and if you have a front end prang, the front panels can be used on the 240, unlike the zx.

Happy Z ing

sorry my mistake! there 280zx's that I was looking at.

really just want a r200 diff and am looking at a more powerfull motor L28?

Thought it would be cheeper to buy a wreck ($400-600) than buy the individual parts from a wrecker.

there seem to be too many options when it comes to HP upgrades.

Should I just work my own 240 motor

or should i put the l28 motor in

what about the head, Use my e31, work it and use triple webers or use the l28 head work it and go fuel injection.

If I am going to spend $3000-4000 dollars on the motor and maybe some work on my gearbox would i not be better off buying a rb motor and box for about the same price even though installation would be much more difficult.

Are the l28 or rb motors heavier than my l24. i dont really want to increase the weight of my car.

Cheers

We also have a lots of 80's model R30 skylines in Perth that were imported in the 80's as second hand imports (amongst other rare Jap model cars like r30 coupes, corona coupes, A friend of mine had a C211 2000GT skyline with and L20ET 6cyl. And masses of series 1 and 2 rx7's, cordias, celica etc etc.)

Anyway the skylines have 6 cyl Lseries engines with fuel injection, and probably have r200 diffs as well.
