September 23, 201212 yr comment_402345 Is it an OEM sway bar, or aftermarket? I am not sure if a 72 came with a stock rear sway bar, and I don't know where they mounted the stock bar. This kit: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PSDC05/23-4101 Mounts in front of the differential, not behind as shown in the previous post. See my attached pictures for more information: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44443-rear-sway-bar-configuration/#findComment-402345 Share on other sites
September 23, 201212 yr comment_402357 Nice pics, Walter! I now realize what those mystery holes in my floor behind the seat were for! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44443-rear-sway-bar-configuration/#findComment-402357 Share on other sites
September 23, 201212 yr comment_402359 I have a 72 and the stock sway bar position is the same a Walters. I managed to find one from a JDM 260 2+2 that bolted straight on. September 23, 201212 yr comment_402361 Im not sure what swaybar you are using (aftermarket or OEM), but here are some pics of a 280z setup. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44443-rear-sway-bar-configuration/#findComment-402361 Share on other sites
September 24, 201212 yr comment_402454 I'm pretty sure no US '72 z's came with a stock rear sway bar. I installed a BRE/Interpart rear sway bar kit in 1975, which is a rear-oriented design. The instructions are posted here: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/BRESway.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44443-rear-sway-bar-configuration/#findComment-402454 Share on other sites
September 28, 201212 yr comment_402811 I agree with Mr. Iron that the 240z did not come stock w/a rear sway bar. The forwrd mount sway bar is surely an after market piece. The only problem with those kits is that the mount to the body must be beefed up inside the car. I bought a ST sway bar that mounts from the rear, very nice product. Very similar to the BRE. January 1, 201312 yr Author comment_410558 Hey Iron, it looks like I have a BRE sway bar kit...any idea if I can get repalcement bushes and associated hardware still?...or am I going to have to improvise? January 1, 201312 yr comment_410590 Hey Iron, it looks like I have a BRE sway bar kit...any idea if I can get replacement bushes and associated hardware still?...or am I going to have to improvise?I use stock nissan rubber bushings for front and rear (56112-09400). I'm not a urethane bushing fan. Black Dragon has end link kits if you need hardware, too. I bought a pair of the U bracket bushings at a local auto parts shop about 10 years ago. I don't think I had to modify them. A 15/16" dia. swaybar must be used on some other vehicles. The link I posted earlier has dimensional information if you want to improvise.
