Cobra Style Side Exhausts

24OZ

Recommended Posts

Yes, I have used them. It was on my vette not the Z. I dont think you would like them on your Z. The look and sound is hot. The down side is BURNS. On the set up there he dosnt even have heat gaurds :stupid: My ex has a scar from the burn off my vette pipes and they had heat gaurds.

The other down side is ground clearance. With a Z you wont have any. Just call um speedbump grinders.

I have plans on mine of running the pipes under the car but putting the ex tips out just in front of the rear wheels. We will see when I get that far. Along way off yet.... :sleepy:

Yes, I have side exhausts on my 240ZV8. They give more ground clearance than having the exhausts under the car. I have not had any burns or problems with exiting the car. I chose this type of exhaust mainly to lower the car for top speed aerodynamics. I am very happy with them.

Hi Baron,

lovely Z, do you have any close up pics of the exhaust you could put up?

How easy was it fitting them?? Do you have to weld brackets along the side rails? I expect it has to be a cutom job inorder to do this?

Thanks.

I forgot to add that they were very easy to install. I used the shorty headers off the ZZ3 engine and went out the wheelwell. This gives the car extra ground clearance since I installed lowered springs. It has adjustable shocks, large sway bars and neopreme bushings so the cornering is very good. At thunderhill road course, it handled equal to the high dollar Vetts in the corners, and ate them up when on the 5/8 mile straight.

The exhaust pipes are 2.5 inches. I had a tab welded on the pipes just ahead of the mufflers. This tab is bolted to the subframe. If you do not install a subframe, you could attach it to the stock subframe. I had a complete subframe built and bolted to the floor which attaches to a full roll cage. I did this because I ran the car at the Silverstate Race in Nevada. At speeds over 180 mph they require a full roll cage. The race is 90 miles on a two lane highway from Lund Nevada to Hiko Nevada. The slowest class is 95 mph, so most all stock cars can compete and have a lot of fun. You can check this out at:

It has been a few years since I ran the race, but if they are still doing it, it is a blast. Zcars do very well in the race.

I have adjusted the contrast and you can now see the pipe. But car is not as pretty.
