Posted September 24, 201212 yr comment_402534 Hey allThis afternoon I replaced my distributor on the Z (long story I won't have the energy to explain). I noticed that my vacuum advance seems to be hoocked up directly to a T where one half goes to the TB (I'm guessing) and the other goes to the vacuum canister. Now this T was apparently VERY old as it broke on me. My question is, how exactly is the vacuum advance supposed to be hooked up. Is it supposed to go to the canister or to the TB fitting (or whatever that little nipple sticking out goes to)? Thanks allJan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44497-dizzy-vacuum-advance/ Share on other sites
September 25, 201212 yr comment_402537 Actually, the reason for the T is that both the vacuum advance and the valve on the carbon canister are operated by "ported" vacuum. So the line that runs to the TB is to the same ported vacuum source for both. It opens the valve in the carbon canister and applies vacuum to the distributor's advance module as soon as the throttle is opened. The carbon canister has a pretty big vacuum hose of its own that they must want to stay closed at idle, hence the small ported line to operate the valve. September 25, 201212 yr comment_402543 And if you cannot find that T-fitting at NAPA or any of your other normal car part sources, check Ace / True Value hardward stores. They will often have these small fittings for use in Plumbing and will have them in their "specialty" parts bins.Another place to check is your local Aquarium supply, (Petsmart, Petco, Your local independent) as these get used to distribute air to the different stones. If you find one of the older style, you might even find them in brass.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44497-dizzy-vacuum-advance/#findComment-402543 Share on other sites
