front seal and crankshaft oil thrower

I took out the pully to change the front seal. There are grooves in the pulley dampener. Do I have to replace the pulley dampener or I can buy a sleeve to put it in? Secondly the crankshaft oil thrower is not held in place and it is just loose. It is not attached to anything and just sit loosely in the crankshaft. This is just weird. Can you tell me how to install the oil thrower correctly? tks in advance

Your words are kind of confusing. Don't you have to remove the damper to replace the seal? The pulley is attached to the damper. Where would the grooves be that you're describing?

Can't help on the oil slinger, although it's probably described in Engine Mechancial n the FSM.

when installing the pulley to the crankshaft, it slides through the front seal lip. Over time, the seal lip somehow makes a groove in the shaft. I have a diesel cummins and it did the same thing, they sell a sleeve that slide in so you don't have to replace it.

I've read of people using Redi-sleeve on the crankshaft rear seal area. I'll bet that you get opinions on both sides though, Redi-sleeve it or just replace the damper/pulley unit. Should be easy to sleeve though since it's off the engine.

Good luck, I've not fixed that problem. You probably have it already but here's a link to the Redi-sleeve page - http://www.timken.com/en-us/products/seals/industrial/products/Pages/redisleeves.aspx
