October 20, 201212 yr Author comment_404741 I'll make you an insert. Send me a PM. Will do! The cap came from Rob over in Canada the other day and looks great. Can't wait to get this thing restored.. May 29, 201311 yr comment_424386 Following up to this, I'm in a similar situation as ninjazombiemaster. The knob turns about half a turn then locks up; if I twist any harder I hear little crackles like the wood is starting to splinter... don't like the sound of that at all. The knob is original and I would bet my bottom dollar it's never been removed. How are they supposed to come off? Was a thread locker originally applied by the factory? May 30, 201311 yr comment_424428 Scratch that, got it off tonight. I think the cracking was just thread locker breaking loose, as there was a fair amount on there. May 30, 201311 yr Author comment_424430 Yeah. Mine was essentially glued in place, which had hardened into epoxy-threading, because there was nothing left of the original threads. Took a ton of effort, several blisters and small movements day by day. June 7, 201311 yr comment_425081 How did you end up reattaching the knob? Seeing as the threads were cracked and blown out. Did you use an insert like Captain Obvious showed back in post #16?
