I have a 73 240z that is pretty much slammed (bought it that way). It is so low to the ground I can't even get a jack underneath it. The PO auto x it and my guess is that it has shortened struts. I want to actually raise the car 2 inches and I was wondering if I could accomplish this through a larger rim/tire. The car has zg flares and some xxrs with 215 50 15 tires on it. I would like to put a 17 inch rim but don't know what size tire and if it will actually raise the car. If not it looks like i will have to save up for some ground controls and matching shocks to raise it.

Fix your suspension first with replacement struts, springs and shocks - or possibly coil overs if so inclined. Then, put your current wheels and tires back on and see if you like the look. You did not mention any offset on your current wheels, that might be something to checkout. Your current tire is 23.5" dia., a stock tire would be 25" so your current tires would have you 3/4" lower if all other components are back to stock.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I will just revert it back to stock. I'm in the process of getting the z ready for winter. Probably should allow me some time to save some funds for a new suspension come summer.
