nahurry Posted January 28, 2003 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2003 does anyone know where to find a new 240z gas tank?
2ManyZs Posted January 28, 2003 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2003 Check with Zedd Findings or MSA, MSA has them in their catalog but they evidently have supply problems.I know of no others that offer new tanks. If yours is not rusted to badly on the outside or dented, perhaps you could try restoring it by re-sealing the interior of the tank either with a kit from POR-15 or Eastwoods.Or try www.gastankrenu.com
Bambikiller240 Posted January 29, 2003 Share #3 Posted January 29, 2003 The 240Z gas tanks have been unavailable from the factory for some time now. MSA sometimes can find decent used ones through their contacts at boneyards local to them. Here's another place to check into for major repairs or rebuilding of your gas tank.http://www.gas-tank.com/Good Luck! Daniel Posted January 29, 2003 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2003 Unless your's is real bad,it can be fixed. The is a place here in charlotte near the old coliseum that fixes them. They have done 4 or 5 for me for various cars thru the years. The high pressure blast it,dip it in I assume some sort of acid bath,Then apply the coating to the inside to stop that rust demon forever. There are kits you can by but,I suggest leaving that job to the pros.Have it done correctly and move on..I have a friend that did his own.The problem came when the sealant dried it formed a bubble he could not see.It was a small timebomb. When it popped,it released the liquid into his fuel system. Not good! Have fun. Daniel Oh its called Clausons Radiator. I can't say enough good things about them. They are true pro's.
mmagnus Posted January 29, 2003 Share #5 Posted January 29, 2003 I sent my tank to a local Radiator repair shop that also restored tanks. Mine wasnt in too bad a shape. It had a small dent and a lot of overspray from a white paint job. I shipped the tank for $20 and they completely sand blasted inside and out and installed the new sending unit. Then they bake on a flat black paint finish. Looks like brand new. They did the strapps too. They are located in Stockton, CA. Total cost was about $250.A lot cheaper than buying a new one.Mark
Victor Laury Posted January 29, 2003 Share #6 Posted January 29, 2003 The Gas Tank ReNew franchises are all over the states and probably Canada as well. After my dealings with the L.A. franchise, I have nothing but accolades. Good Service and fair deals. I was returning a tank ReNew tank from a 72 that their repair had failed. I explained to them that this was out of a junk car that I was placing into a new car. They Did Not Care! They Covered their tank, No questions asked, no matter where it came from or who paid for the initial service, or which car it came from! I got a repaired tank without opening my wallet. Very refreshing to encounter real professionalism in this mostly crooked world.

Darylick Posted January 30, 2003 Share #9 Posted January 30, 2003 I don't have a name for you, but I was recently looking through a Hot Rod Mag (I think it was Hot Rodder) there's a company offering new stainless steel replacement tanks. AND listed with numerous pre seventies american car tanks was the Datsun Z. Sorry I'm not more specific.Darylick
Bambikiller240 Posted January 30, 2003 Share #10 Posted January 30, 2003 If you encounter the advert for this company again, PLEASE post the contact information about them to the site. There are lots of us who might be interested in a stainless replacement tank for our cars. You'd be doing the company AND all of us a huge favor if you can help us connect. Thanks,Carl
