Backfiring (from the intake) and other troubles.

Recommended Posts

This is painfully stupid. The lack of power was from a kink in the fuel hose from the bowl to the dome of the carb, so tiny I didn't even see it. I shortened the hose and reattached it, and its literally twice the car it was before. I was driving around a 3 cylinder.

On another note, I installed the new fuel sending unit today. Glad to finally know where my tank stands. I've yet to see if its going to backfire come morning when its cold, and it loped today hot (before the repair) but progress is being made. There seems to be something funky with my choke now though, I'll investigate that further when I can.

I had similar issue with you.

So, did you watch Z therapy DVD? You can learn a lots of SU and how to adjust.

Sounds like your carb setting is too rich. Too much fuel when you step on the gas pedal. I had same issue and adjust float level will be fixed backfire issue.

Also, valve adjustment will help you to easy to ignite engine too. Highly recommended.

ZTherapy is open when I have the phone turned on. Closed when it's off..... nyuck nyuck

One thing I'd check, understanding this car is a flat top conversion, is to to see if and how the choke cables are hooked up. The flat top choke cable ends at the carb require some surgery to work well and unless they were modified correctly, may be adding to the cold start thing.

Also make sure there is oil in the dampers. We recomment ATF.

Idle speed all over the map is an indication the throttle shafts are leaking transient air down stream from where the air fuel mixture takes place.

But regardless of all the "do this try that" stuff, the JUST SUs dvd will certainly shorten your learning curve.

Thats fair enough. Haha

It seems to run much better now that both carbs are getting fuel (whoda thought?), but you can still definitely consider me a future customer.
