How do you calibrate the oil pressure and water temperature gauges?

I found this a great read and a helpful study and I appreciate all the time and thought the author of this thread put into his documentation. I was severely admonished on Z car dot com for posing a question regarding temperature gauge accuracy in my Z. I thought it was just a thoughtful inquiry & request for advice but the reception I received was similar to primates throwing excrement, so E I really got a laugh out of your retort about your airplane's prop behavior from an engine malfunction (for its irony and instruction)---NO PROBLEM IS TOO SMALL TO INVESTIGATE!!

I know how you feel. On another forum I was hooned off when I asked a question above replacing the 5th gear fibre synchro ring in a 71A transmission.

Here its a lot different. Everyone has ideas and the comments are friendly even if they don't agree with each other or your point of view.

I agree with Wade. Electromechanical gauges are not the best for accuracy, not by a long shot. The needles on the gauges are simply indicators of normal operation. When I have a 160 degree thermostat installed, the needle covers the "E" in TEMP; when I have a 180 degree installed it covers the left leg of the "M". If during normal operation I notice something different I need to be aware and follow any trend. It doesn't matter that the gauge is reading 155 or 167.3...it only matters that I know where "normal" is.
