mjr45 Posted October 26, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) I put a new wiper fluid pump (AutoZone generic) on, the old pump was rusted and never worked, checked the lines and nozzles, all clear. I get fluid from only the drivers side nozzle. Any suggestions? Edited October 26, 2012 by mjr45
psdenno Posted October 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2012 Check lines and nozzle - especially the non functioning nozzle - again. My guess is an obstruction in the nozzle which has a smaller opening. Hook a section of like to it and try blowing through it. Aquarium clear hose works nicely as a replacement for the original fluid lines.Dennis
mjr45 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted October 26, 2012 Thanks Dennis I never thought of using aquarium line. I can blow fluid in the line out of the nozzle, but the pump just won't push it thru.
SteveJ Posted October 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 26, 2012 To clear a windshield washer nozzle, unwind a stiff spring and use that wire to probe into the nozzle from the exit side. The small wire gauge of the spring should be able to go into the nozzle, and the stiffness will allow you to push it in. After you have made some attempts to clear the obstruction, do as Dennis suggests.
Wade Nelson Posted October 26, 2012 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2012 Autozone sells a 7/64" tubing, black, that works well as wiper fluid line. You're never going to look at it if its working so there's no real advantage to using clear, which turns yellow over time anyway.
mjr45 Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted October 27, 2012 Steve I've already run a wire thru the nozzle and the line going to that nozzle is clear. Thanks for the replies.
psdenno Posted October 27, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2012 Did you check the "T" that splits the fluid line from the pump to the right and left nozzles? There's really not much to the system, so if the pump is pumping there must be blockage in either the line, the "T", or the nozzle. New line and a "T" are inexpensive. I'd start there since you feel that the nozzle is fully open. Have you disconnected the line to the side that doesn't work at the nozzle connection and checked to see how much fluid pumps out?Dennis
mjr45 Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted October 27, 2012 Not yet Dennis, I've been unable to do much since I'm on crutches for a couple or more days but will check all that stuff again. Thanks.
