The foot rests were standard items on JDM cars. My 1972, FZ-L has it. 

Note that the floor has reinforcing where it bolts through. 

Passenger footrest was standard equipment on 'DELUXE' models in Japan, and an extra-cost showroom order option on 'STANDARD' models.

I'm not really sure how "rare" this item is, but i think i've never seen it on a swiss car. And as a serious parts-hoarder i love to collect these things anyway ?

I think they are rare outside Japan. I have had a few come through my hands, and there is slight differences between them, about 5 or 6. As you see yours has both "feet" facing the same way, and the bottom of the feet are square.

As you see, the "feet" face each other, and bottom of the feet are rounded.

There is also differences in the bolts to fix the footrest to the car, some are round headed like yours, some are slotted head. And the rivet holding the hoop and the feet differs too.

If you blast it, cover the ribbed rubber bit, as these aren't avaliable, I had to reproduce it for my footrests.

Are you sure they're rivets? I thought they were self tapping screws for temporary purposes

Oh I think you are right!  My faith in his bodyman has been restored? I just saw how shiny they were and assumed they aluminum rivets,  using zip screws is exactly how I do it too. Need new glasses.

Hi Ian , you are very accurate about the detail of the foot rest  , yes the one in Yahoo auction is the correct for the Fairlady Z from the beginning (Oct 1969 ) to 1973 or later .

scotta , also a good observation about the reinforcement for the foot rest , early Fairlady Z series ( unknown time period) doesn’t have the patch on the floor. Please see my silver 01/1970 Z432 , there is no reinforcement on the floor (I put a big washer to prevent the floor from being bent , that is not original) . My 06/1972 Fairlady 240ZG has reinforcement patches .

I am curious about your floor mat. Is it a Custom Version? I have an aftermarket version that is very similar to the photos here except is chrome not black  It is new and still in the original box.

Thanks a lot for your insight and pictures on this. very interresting with the two versions, Patches, etc.  Will definitely have to investigate a bit further on this topic.

Haha yeah they are definitely self tapping screws for holding the metals together temporary. Rivets will only be used where there were rivets from factory side...

Hi , the floor mat is made by Mr.Sudo with very close to the original material , loop pile carpet . I am so happy with it . What part of the carpet “ chrome or black “ are you referring to ?

I found a good example, this August or September 1970 Fairlady Z (S30S , Z-std) 

has already patches for the foot rest , but this car is a S30S , the most plain , simple model so there is no foot rest . When you want it , you just make a hole to slot in the bolt .

Sorry Kats I just noticed this comment and I apologize for not being clear. As I mentioned before I purchased an after market version of the foot rest a number of years ago thinking my wife would appreciate  it. As you can see from the photos it mounts differently than the original. 
I was particularly interested in your carpet. Appears the solution is to have a carpet mat made. 
also I am interested in knowing how you reproduced the ribbed rubber cover. 

Well the last week have been pretty busy at work, and i'm still working on some details of the house. but everything is finally calming down now and i have plans to kickstart the Z-project again soon and get some long overdue work done over the next months.
So i got in touch with my Bodyshop guy to discuss a few details and then i just got an update from him from today. The old seat brackets got removed and sandblasted:
