Ouch! You just hurt my car's feelings!

Seems not everybody likes the Japanese home-market mirrors, but "abominations" is a perhaps a bit strong!...........

Still - at least you'll be able to turn them into money. What's the plan for filling in the massive holes they will leave in your front guards though? The spring-back mount for the JDM mirrors is enormous. They are a little like icebergs; what you can see sticking out is only half the story................

About the same as you. I've been pulling out the interior so i can take a look at the floor, inside the doors, and inside the back pannels. and fixing little things, like headlight switch, indicator switch. I put a battery hold down strap on it.

I plan to strip the paint completely off, and see what lies underneath, but the garage is full of furniture, so I guess it will have to wait.

Engine needs new rings.

Hey i just joined. Im from Perth as well. Ive been speaking to that guy with the 240z build number 36 or something like that. Saturday he said he got a tune up and clean. And now today hes replacing the timing belt. Ahhh is he gonna sell it?

I didnt even bother.

Im still lookin for a 240z with not much work needed to be done. I dont think i will find one. There is a really nice 240z identical to the pic up on top of the web site (red one) in oceanreef full restored. I feel like knocking on his door to ask him if he wants to sell it. He also has another silver one. pretty much stock. If ones not enough.:classic:

Not sure if you guys in perth have seen it but quite a while ago there was 260z black in yokine for 3000 with a 1990 300z motor. Cowling had rust and lid, but all seemed to ok. Of course a few things wrong. Anyone buy it?

I dont think the guy wanted to sell it, his wife i think wanted to get rid of it.

I don't no what WA State Rego NAZIS are up to, but the general rule in Australia is "if the vehical pre- dates legislation and is road registered in good condition, they can ask you to change the configuration but not demand the change. It is a volantary action. Dont let the rego lapse as they are in a much better position to get what they want.

I use as an example a number of Morris 1000 sedans still on full regestration in NSW with NO SEAT BELTS, these cars are factory standard. The RTA in NSW could probably make them fit the belts but would then be open to law suit from anyone injured in those cars by the seat belts, because the car was not designed for them.

With those exceptional looking wing mirrors on a Z in NSW the only thing NSW RTA would do is drool over them.

For my 2c

Yeah as long as the car was sold with them (or without them, the seat belts in the morris), you can pretty much get away with it. Thats why you can stuff 327 chevs in monaros.

But the 240z wasn't sold with fender mirrors, the mirror was on the door, so they can ping you for it.

Its not as if i don't like the mirrors its just i want mirrors that i can adjust whilst still in the car. Also the image is not the best from that far away. The mirrors will just go in the shed and sit on the shelf just incase the car ever gets a full rebuild back to stock. (many years from now). sorry trs.

as far as holes in the guards- i'm sure they will still be smaller than the ones I've got in the floor pan. But thanks for the warning Alan.

p.s how do you insert a quote? after you click on quote it asks you to enter the text to be formated . what does that mean?

Welcome ecash!

Just when I think all of the Perth guys have bought their Zs and the market is mine... you bob up! It would be worth knocking on his door (the Ocean Reef guy) to see if he wants to sell... you never know - especially if the cars appear to be in good condition.

For what it's worth I'd leave the front fender mirrors on W.A.ZED. I reckon they are cool. Strange that your Z has them though, the only other Z I've seen with them in Australia had a Fairlady badge so I assume it was an import.

Strange world we live in though! It's not legal to have fender mirrors but feel free to bolt large steel barwork to your car in case of hitting a roo.

I thought the early(er) ones had fender mounted mirrors, with an option to have them fitted next to the window? I dont know why I think this... btw my front fenders have little "plugs" only noticeable from the inside where the mirrors would be.

I love the mirrors on the fenders!!!

I started pulling my 240z apart, and as I have nowhere to put stuff at the moment I threw everythin in the rear of the car, and thanks to the hot weather we've been having I now have a melted glovebox hatch D'OH.:dead:

Also found that its had some sort of accident on the right (drivers side) rear pannel, but wont know the extent of the damage untill I get the paint off.

Also found the remains of a wiring splice for a tow bar, D'OH again, which might explain the small cracks around the front window. These cars werent designed for the extra stress towing puts on the chassis. Hope the damage isn't as bad as my last 240z, but again I will have to wait and see how bad it is once i get it fully stripped.

Some of the rust repairs, although welded, seem a bit second rate, and I like things done right, so I'll probably do them again, myself.

I've been fixing and cleaning all the little bits that i can keep in the house, like headlight switch stalk. I'm currently restoring the steering wheel. Dont be afraid to use pain stripper on the faux wood to remove the varnish, it wont damage the woodgrain at all, and is probably better than sanding it with wet and dry.

I stripped one of the headlight buckets and found the starting signs of rust, and way too much filler than was required. Lazy pannel beaters. Gonna strip the whole car and do it propperly.

How's everyone else going?

Cuong got a 240z gearbox you wanna sell?
