Posted November 18, 201212 yr comment_407175 I have a 1971 240Z that came with the original "D" hubcaps in a box. By their condition, they look all original with no attempt at restoration (well used). While I was hanging them on the wall in the garage to keep them safer than on a bench, I noticed that 3 of the hubcaps had the valve stem hole above the "D" and one had the hole below the "D". This seems a bit odd to me but I could be wrong. Does anyone know if this is normal? Its not a big deal, but I thought the learned folks at this site may satisfy my curisoity.thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/44962-1971-hubcap-question/ Share on other sites
November 18, 201212 yr comment_407176 Normal, in that yours are not a matched set. I can't recall which was which, but the early 'D' cap were one style, the later were the other. The one with the hole below the D will probably have a different style of retainer clips as well. November 18, 201212 yr Author comment_407179 Arne - right you are, the one oddball hubcap does have slightly different retainer clips in the valve stem area. Thanks for clearing this up.
