Speakers for my 76 2+2

Need a little help. I am trying to talk my wife in getting me speakers for my 76 280 2+2 for x-mas. I am leaning towrad a box in the rear with 6x9's. Any suggestions.

Also, have considered vintage pioneer speakers TS-x11's.

I have a new retro radio.

I've got Kenwoods, pretty sure they're 6x9 in a rear box, with the retrosound radio. It sounds great, but a separate bass speaker wouldn't hurt.

Is the box spefically made for the 280z or is it seperate boxes for each speaker?

At least in my 240, its one box housing both speakers. I believe mine was custom made, but similar ones can also be purchased from MSA for around $150

I would like to be able to take the two speakers and put or point them outside of the car. If I remember correctly when I owned my 280z back in 1980, showing my age, I had pioneer ts-x11's and it was nice to be able to sit outside the car and listen to the radio. I am thinking about building two seperate boxes for 6x9's and having a third box somewhat connecting the two so to give the look of the MSA.

What are the MSA boxes made from or what should I use.

If I open the rear hatch, it can be heard very well outside. Haha.

The material is really up to you... Being a guitarist by hobby, I could give you a lecture about the differences between the cabinet woods and openings and the sounds response. But honestly, any sturdy wood would be good, and depending on your climate, one that is effected less by temperature changes may be the best call.

Might be cool to have two small, seperate boxes attached to the posts in the rear area pointing out.. I forget what they're called - covered in the vinyl? Regardless.

Then it wouldn't hurt to have some more standard placed speakers, just because in the long run, how it sounds when you drive is probably the most important. In addition to the rear speaker cab option, there are a ton of existing placements for speakers, or nooks that can easily and seamlessly be changed. What will get it sounding best is achieving independence in range - Having tweeters and subs, in addition to the 6x9s

Ok, I have been out of commission for a little while. Anyone out there have pioneer speakers TS-X11's they may want to part with. I know that this is a long shot but doesn't hurt to ask. Showing my age but trying to recreate my system from 1979. Long story but I have the radio from my car I owned in the late 70's early 80's and would like to get the system working.

I have a 1976 and I can't seem to figure out where the original speakers were mounted. in the area just behind the rear wheels there are what looks to be speaker grills but looking behind there I see no mounting hardware. Anyone have any ideas? I would rather keep the cargo area as open as possible.

Here is what I did. Speaker Panel The covering you see is the original, it now is black vinyl. I also kept the original radio and put a new one with CD in the glove compartment. Original radio to original speakers and new to new 6x9's. If you do this you will have to Y the antenna lead to both radios.

78 Z. I put 6x9 Infinity's in the deck behind the seats and 3.5 in Infinitiy's where the stock speakers went in the panel behind the seats. Infinity was the only 3.5 in speaker I could find that would handle the power from my amp that I mounted under my deck. I'm still thinking about putting some kind of tweeter at the front for more balance. My Z in college had some speakers in the door panel that took care of that nicely.
